Politicians Identify Sponsors Like NASCAR

Here is a great idea that Tea Party and Occupy folks probably have in common.

Just like NASCAR drivers wear suits with logos showing their sponsors, we could have our representatives also show clearly who is the sponsorship for their race to win election. I love it.

Launching Again

In high school I became aquainted with the great American authors of the last century, Hemingway, Faulkner, Buck and many others. Ever since then I have dreamed, somewhere deep inside, of being an author. A quality writer.

I became a Christian, a pastor, and then a missionary. Became busy with ministry. Did a little writing on projects. Finally, as a lead pastor at my home church, the desire to minister in writing has grown again. I write sermons every week. I have almost eight book presentations that I've been working on for a long time.

Earler this year the project farthest along was slowed by the death of my cowriter.

The most important aspect of all this is to write every day. I write a few Tweets each day. I want to commit once again to blogging each week. That is, working through the week and posting a little essay each week. I hope that gets the two books farthest along really going. I'll tell you about them soon.

My blog will have three areas based on my interest, expertise and fun: using technology to advance the Kingdom of God, missions subjects, and church things.

First little stories: how I became an IT Nut. Stay tuned!

How I became an IT Nut: Part 1

How does a normal person grow up to be an IT Nut? There are many more of us in the world now. Something huge and cultural is going on:

1. Get seriously exposed to computers at a very young age.
I'll never forget the day my Uncle Charlie, who worked as a missile trajectory scientist for Aerospace International, took me to the computer lab at Norton Air Force Base. I was 10 years old. We walked into a clean room filled wqith white wall-high machines with big tape reels spinning on them. There were rows of lights flashing. Very much like Star Trek. I loved Star Trek.

I was invited to sit at a little terminal, a small green screen with words showing: What is your name? I typed in: SCOTT. Then Uncle Charlie encouraged me to type in a question: WHAT IS YOUR NAME? And the computer answered me: MY NAME IS HAL. Whoa!! Uncle Charlie had just taken us to see 2000: A Space Oddysey. Goose bumps ran up and down my neck. It was so cool to interact with HAL!

I was never the same.

We all had our first encounter. The passion was planted deep within. I will tell in the next few weeks how I got from there to my recent and current fascination with technology. I am writing this in bed at 0304 on a Motorola Xoom tablet. Something strange happened along the way.

What was your first encounter with a real computer? I always love hearing your 'salvation' stories.

My Part 2 will be up by Monday June 21st....hope your fancy spyware lets scottfontenot.com in....and Happy Fathers Day ya bunch of nerds.
